Expanded Functions Dental Assistant

Namay Dentistry is looking for an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant!

Performance Expectations:

  • Design and fabricate high-quality aesthetic direct and indirect restorations.
  • Perform effective patient communication and accurate patient education.
  • Take high-quality diagnostic digital radiographs.
  • Exhibit excellent assisting skills in four-handed dentistry.
  • Review the patient’s health history and update the necessary information.
  • Keep the operatory clean and well organized.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Assist in other areas of work involving Namay Dentistry practices.
  • Attend Continuing Education courses as requested.
  • Train other team members when necessary.
  • Establish trust and care in all patient interactions.

 

Success Patterns for this position are:

  • 1-3 years of EFDA experience.

Job Summary

The CDA assists in the performance of excellent clinical dentistry by aiding the doctor effectively and efficiently during examinations and treatment. The CDA performs clinical and technical procedures under the supervision of a licensed dentist, prepares the operatory and equipment, and maintains awareness of the patient’s comfort and safety needs.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty as listed below.

Essential Duties:

  • Be on time and prepared, with charts reviewed for report at each morning huddle.
  • Establish a sense of trust and care in all patient interaction.
  • Review patient’s Health History and update any necessary information.
  • Address any chief complaint or concerns by gathering any necessary information including radiographs and intra-oral photos.
  • Relay the proper information to the Doctor.
  • Take high quality, diagnostic peri-apical, bitewing and panoramic radiographs as necessary.
  • Take high quality intra-oral and extra-oral photos on all new patients and established patients as necessary.
  • Pour and file models.
  • Fabricate whitening trays and retainers.
  • Provide excellent chair-side assisting skills in four handed dentistry.
  • Take diagnostic dental impressions; alginate, blu-bite, and PVS.
  • Provide patient education concerning orthodontic needs and benefits.
  • Assist the Doctor in all operative procedures in a professional and proficient manner.
  • Update hard tissue charting as needed. The patient’s chart should accurately reflect existing restorations, missing teeth and/or conditions present in the patient’s dentition.
  • Provide effective and accurate communication with patients about their treatment plan while answering their questions and calming anxiety.
  • Update and maintain the patient’s treatment plan with new treatment needed and remove treatment that was “unused”.
  • Organize all diagnosed treatment in the treatment planner.
  • Accurately document all current care and treatment provided, future treatment needed, and conditions/concerns of the patient
  • Keep the operatory maintained, clean and well organized.
  • Set-up, clean and sterilize operatory for each patient.
  • Keep operatory stocked with all necessary supplies.
  • Take part in maintaining all Lab equipment at appropriate time intervals.
  • Fill out lab slips, box and put away lab cases.
  • Receive and place any necessary phone calls regarding patient cases and/or care with Lab technicians.
  • Track monthly lab bills.
  • Assist with general office maintenance: laundry, basement, traps, dental equipment, bathrooms, floors, etc.
  • Assist providers and front desk staff with time management by updating or directing on patient care.
  • Make sure the patient is properly dismissed to the front office staff. Communicating the need for any treatment that needs scheduled, including hygiene re-care appointments.
  • Monitor the schedule for changes and facilitate time management.
  • Schedule simple return appointments.
  • Maintain the Monthly Checklist/Log Binder.
  • Keep current all required continuing education hours for CPR, CDA, and Radiographer’s license.
  • Maintain all State Licensure.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Stay positive and adaptable to changes that may arise in the schedule and in the office.
  • Skilled in the use of standard dental office equipment including Autoclave model trimmer, X-ray machine – Pano, Panoramic X-ray, ultrasonic, Laser, Intra Oral camera, Vacu-press and hand pieces.
  • Knowledge of cross contamination and how to prevent it.
  • Ability to maintain composure and professionalism when exposed to stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and changes.
  • Knowledge of English composition, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

  • Ability to engender trust from the doctors, co-workers, and patients.

  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Ability to quickly grasp relevant concepts regarding duties and responsibilities.

Education/ Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of relevant experience in the dental profession.

Special Requirements/Certifications/Licenses:

  • Valid X-ray certificate
  • Current expanded functions-CDA license
  • CPR & first aid certificate
  • Hep B vaccine?

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

  • May be required to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Hand-eye coordination and hand, arm, and finger mobility for detailed work with objects.
  • May be required to physically assist drowsy patients after anesthesia.
  • Active movement throughout the day i.e. sitting, walking, standing, squatting, bending, stooping, reaching.
  • Vision: close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Hearing: able to satisfactorily communicate with patients, doctor, and other staff members to ensure that verbal communication is clearly understood, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or operate equipment.
  • May be required to administer CPR.
  • Occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and radiation.
  • Exposure to moderate noise levels.
  • Exposure to hectic, fast-paced, high anxiety environments.

Additional or different duties may be assigned occasionally at employer’s discretion.

Special Assignments That May Apply:

OSHA Coordinator:

  • Facilitate and maintain OSHA compliance throughout the office.
  • Maintain OSHA Manual.
  • Be aware of any OSHA updates and inform co-workers accordingly.
  • Maintain office compliance through proper state and federal signage.
  • Provide yearly mandated staff training requirements.
  • Provide new employees with OSHA training.
  • Maintain the Written Hazards Communications manual and Infection Control Manual.
  • Maintain the office Radiation Exposure manual.

Supply Coordinator:

  • Check in Invisalign cases and inform the Scheduling Coordinator of the appointment time necessary for attachment(s) and patient education.
  • Consult with dental representatives regarding products/supplies.
  • Order all necessary back-office products/supplies.
  • Put away all incoming products/supplies
  • Maintain a neat and organized ordering system.

Infection Control Coordinator:

  • Provide yearly mandated staff training requirements.
  • Attend yearly OSHA meeting along with OSHA coordinator.
  • Work alongside OSHA coordinator to ensure all Infection Control protocol in the office is current.
  • Be aware of any Infection Control updates and inform co-workers accordingly.
  • Maintain MSDS manual.
